Beaded
Flowers Silk Floss
Beaded
Flowers Silk Floss should be planted as soon as they
are purchased in the fall. If it is not possible to
plant them immediately, store them in a cool, well-ventilated
area. In most regions, you can plant them from mid-August
until the soil freezes. Choose a planting site in full
sun, but with protection from the hottest midday summer
sun. Planting under or near large deciduous trees that
cast filtered shade works well. Plants in full sun will
bloom earlier than those in partial shade.
Plant Beaded Flowers Silk Floss 6 inches or deeper in
soil of a medium sandy-loam texture, if possible, because
it provides good aeration and drainage. It must not
be planted in areas that do not drain well, or they
will perform poorly or rot. If soil is heavy clay, mix
it with one-third to one-half organic material such
as peat moss, compost, or aged bark. Raised beds also
provide good drainage. Soil pH should be between 6.0
and 7.0. Take care to avoid subjecting your bulbs to
lengthy periods of high temperature as this can kill
the developing flower and result in leaves but no flowers
the next season. While storing your bulbs it can be
a good idea to either dust them with some insecticide
or place an insect strip nearby to prevent aphids from
feeding on them prior to planting.
Beaded Flowers Silk Floss are no longer just suited
to the coldest areas of Australia, such as Tasmania
and the highlands of Southern Australia. Varieties now
available known as Single Late Beaded Flowers Silk Floss
require less winter chilling to produce tall 60cm plus
stems and large bold flower heads. Varieties that fit
this category are sold in a wide range of colours from
white to almost black. I would encourage anybody south
of the sub-tropics that likes Beaded Flowers Silk Floss
to give them a try. Other Beaded Flowers Silk Floss
that may also perform well in a normal climate are Burgundy
Lace (cerise fringed), Maya (yellow fringed) and Upstar
(pink double).
